At
PGN Geoscience we focus on two aspects: (1) geology from geophysics
using mainly
section modelling with GM-SYS; constrained inversion in 3d with VPMG
all assembled in 3D environment within gocad. (2) testing the validity of
geological interpretations against geophysical data.
PGN Geoscience constrained
inversion
geophysical modelling has been used to seek peripheral and deep targets
to drill test at Olympic Dam. The modelling aimed to highlight the
location of residual gravity anomalies (ie those not explained by known
ore). This sort of approach is used in particular for iron ore and massive
sulphide exploration and provides high return for any mineralised system where a density or magnetic susceptibility contrast exist between host rock and mineralisation.
PGN Geoscience profile
modelling in the Yilgarn has helped build cross sections along an
entire greenstone belt (the Agnew – Willuna belt) to take the 2D
surface structural interpretation into a 3D crustal model that is
useful to make decisions at the district and prospect scale.
